Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare

Regular Aftercare Will Lead to the Best Possible Results Following Your Laser Tattoo Removal

Follow these recommended practices:

  • Keep treated area clean and dry while healing. Clean the area gently with soap and water and then pat dry the area.
  • Blistering is common and likely to occur a few hours after your treatment. Do not be alarmed, blisters heal very well and are part of the normal healing process. Blisters indicate your immune system is healing the treated area. Do your best to avoid the blisters popping. If any blisters pop apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the area until it scabs over. Always wash your hands before and after touching the healing area.
  • You may apply a cool compress as needed for 24 hours after the laser treatment to help reduce discomfort and inflammation. You may take ibuprofen or other over the counter pain reliever. Avoid Aspirin, it can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding. Please read warning labels and follow directions on any medication you may take.
  • Do not pick at scabs or allow the skin to become scraped, as this may result in scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treatment area until it is fully healed.
  • Feel free to shower 4 hours after the treatment, but take care to avoid high-pressure water hitting the treated area. Baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, or any form of soaking are not recommended until all blistering and scabbing is completely healed, as they may increase health risks.
  • Exercise is generally safe after treatment, taking into account the aftercare instructions provided here.
  • Avoid any sun exposure on the treated area. If sun exposure is unavoidable please ask us for advice. Once treated area is healed superficially sunblock with an SPF of 50 or higher should be applied to the area. Do not wear makeup, cream or any medication on or near the treated area unless recommended by our office until healed.
  • Itching is very common to the dehydrating effect of the laser treatment. If any open or scabbing wounds are still present use a triple antibiotic ointment. If the treated area is completely healed use Vitamin E oil.
  • If the area looks discolored (honey color crusting and oozing or spreading redness), if you experience any unusual discomfort or bleeding, if any other complications develop or if you have any questions or concerns contact the office immediately.
  • Of course, if you have any extreme reaction contact your medical care provider, 911 or an emergency department.
